Troubleshooting

A font doesn't appear on another device

Both devices need the same Apple Account with iCloud Drive turned on. Open Typomat on the other device: it looks for new fonts when it opens or comes back to the front. A big library can take a moment to sync. To move one font without iCloud, send its .typograph file and open it in the app.

A font changed on another device, but not here

A font open in the editor doesn't change while you're in it. Go back to your fonts and the newer version comes in.

A font I deleted is still in iCloud Drive

Deleted fonts move to the Deleted folder in the app's folder in iCloud Drive, and stay there until you remove them. To bring one back, open its file in the app.

Installing a TTF

Typomat gives you a standard TrueType file. On a Mac, open it and Font Book installs it. iPhone and iPad can't install a loose font file by themselves: import it into an app that takes its own fonts, or use a font installer from the App Store.

Some characters are missing from my poster

A poster only sets characters the font has, and leaves the others off. While you edit its words, a small box with a number shows how many are being left out. Emoji and letters from other alphabets are the usual ones.

Frequently asked questions

What does Typomat actually do?

It makes bespoke typefaces, quickly. Press a point on a letter and turn, and the whole font changes. It compiles a real TrueType file you can install and use anywhere.

How long does a font take?

Seconds. One turn changes every letter at once, and the real font file compiles as you go. Start from a font on your shelf, or turn the blank page's one dial and a new face wanders in.

Do I need to draw?

No. The app draws all 181 characters for you, so the whole font always stays in step. If you want more control, there are 35 dials in five sets: form, stroke, ends, flourish and carve.

Can I change just one letter?

Yes, that's refining. It's optional: your font is finished without it. A power point moves a whole end or corner, a point and its handles change the curves beside it, and a pull takes the outline anywhere. Your changes stay when the rest of the font changes, and every export from the app carries them.

How many characters does a font get?

181: lowercase, capitals, figures, punctuation, symbols and accented Latin letters, with kerning. The app draws them all for you.

How do I use my font somewhere else?

Share it. You can send the font itself as a TTF, a poster of it as a PNG or an A2 PDF, or its source as a .typograph file that opens in Typomat on another device.

Can I use my fonts commercially?

With Typomat Pro, yes: client work, logos, products, anything. Fonts from the free app, the student year or the Figma plugin are for non-commercial use. Read the Font License

Is this page really running the app?

Its font engine, yes. The same code is compiled to WebAssembly and runs in your browser, and nothing you make here is sent anywhere. This page holds 80 characters. The app has them all, and keeps what you make. Refining here follows the app's code and stays in its own section. It doesn't reach the page's font.

Where are my fonts kept?

On your device, with a copy in your own iCloud Drive if it's on. There's no account, and the app has no servers of its own.

What does it run on?

iPhone, iPad and Mac, with iOS 26 or later on iPhone and iPad. On a phone or tablet you can turn two dials at once with two fingers.

Can I use it without an iPhone or Mac?

Yes. You can make a font right in your browser, with no account, and it's saved as you go. A test font is free, and the whole font is a one-off purchase, sent to you by email. Make a font online

Can I put this engine in my own product?

Yes. The font engine is licensed separately, as an SDK or a hosted API, so your users can make their own typefaces inside your product. See the engine

Is there a Figma plugin?

Yes, a mini version. It isn't the full app, but it runs the same engine beside your canvas: place the words as real vector outlines, copy them as SVG, or export a TTF. It holds the 80 everyday characters and doesn't save fonts. The app has all 181, and keeps your whole shelf.

Requirements

iPhone and iPad with iOS 26 or later, and Mac. Syncing between devices needs iCloud Drive.
